Supreme Religious Authority
In Friday’s sermon held at the Imam Hussain Shrine on July 19, 2019, sheikh Abdul-Mehdi Elkerbela’i, representative of the Shia Muslim Supreme Religious Authority, voiced concern about the low level of education in Iraq.
Elkerbela’i said, "It’s painful to see a low level of education in Iraq, especially after the Ministry of Education announced the success rate of 34,7% for the ninth-graders, in addition to other low success rates of the other grades."
He indicated that this issue arouses concerns and demands immediate attention to be solved, noting that today’s students will be tomorrow’s employees serving their country by occupying vital positions.
This low level of education reflects negatively on students, their parents, the teaching professionals, and the governmental institutions, said further Elkerbela’i.
He added that what this issue may cause warns of more deterioration in the future, and that threatens Iraq’s educational ranking regionally and internationally.
Elkerbela’i concluded, calling for tackling this educational issue and improving Iraq’s education system by finding immediate solutions.
